Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Beverley and cover the whole of East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, including Cottingham, Hessle, Driffield, Goole, Hornsea, Pocklington, Bridlington, Barton-upon-Humber, Brigg, Lincoln, Louth and the surrounding towns and villages.

How experienced are you?

Founder Shay Ward has been an electrician since leaving school at 16, with 26 years in the electrical trade. Current Contractors Ltd handles the electrical side and Current Contractors Renewables the solar side, so every installation is backed by genuine electrical expertise.

Do you charge for quotes or surveys?

No. Quotes and surveys are completely free and come with no obligation, whether it is electrical work, an EV charger or a full solar and battery system. For solar we also include a personalised savings estimate.

Who will carry out the work?

Our own team. We are a family-run business: Shay leads every project, supported by experienced electricians Luke, Jamie and Duncan, with Louise running the office and keeping you informed from enquiry to handover.

Do you handle both the electrical and solar sides?

Yes. Current Contractors Ltd covers electrical installations, rewires and testing, and Current Contractors Renewables covers solar PV, battery storage and EV charge points. It is the same family-run team either way, so one call covers whatever you need.

What happens after I enquire?

We arrange a free visit or survey at a time that suits you, usually within a few days, then send a clear written quote. If you go ahead, we book the work in: most electrical jobs are done in a day or two, and most solar installations take 1 to 3 days on site.

How much can I save on my energy bills?

Most households save £500 to £1,200 or more per year depending on system size, usage and energy prices. With a battery, savings are often higher as you store and use more of your own power. We provide a free, personalised savings estimate.

What does a typical installation cost?

A standard 4kW home system typically ranges from £5,500 to £8,500 supplied and fitted. Larger systems or those with battery storage cost more. We offer transparent quotes with no hidden fees.

Do I need planning permission?

Most domestic installations in East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are permitted development and do not require planning permission. We check this as part of our free consultation.

How long does installation take?

Usually 1 to 3 days for a standard system. We handle everything from scaffolding to electrical connection and testing.

Is my roof suitable?

We assess roof orientation, pitch, shading and structural strength during the survey. South-facing roofs are ideal, but east and west facing roofs can still work well. We also install ground-mounted systems where needed.

What warranties and guarantees do you offer?

Panels typically come with 25-year performance warranties, inverters with 10 years or more, and every installation carries our full workmanship guarantee. We use high-quality, reputable products.

Do I need to maintain the system?

Very little. Panels are self-cleaning in most cases. We recommend an annual check as an optional service, plus inverter monitoring via an app so you can keep an eye on performance yourself.

Are there any government incentives or grants?

The main benefit is the Smart Export Guarantee, where you get paid for the electricity you export. We stay up to date on all available schemes and help you maximise your returns.

Why choose Current Contractors Renewables?

We are the dedicated renewables arm of established local electrical specialists Current Contractors Ltd. Local to Beverley, fully qualified and trusted across East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire for professional, reliable service.

What electrical work do you take on?

Everything from extra sockets and fault finding through to full rewires, new installations, EICR testing and landlord safety checks, for homes, landlords and businesses. Electrical work is carried out by Current Contractors Ltd, while our sister company Current Contractors Renewables handles solar, battery storage and EV charge points.

Do you offer 24 hour call-outs?

Yes. For electrical emergencies we offer 24hr call-outs across our coverage area. For everything else we will book you in at a time that suits.

Do landlords need an EICR?

Yes. Landlords in England must have a valid Electrical Installation Condition Report, renewed at least every five years, for their rental properties. We test, certify and can complete any remedial work in-house.

Can you install a home EV charger?

Yes. Current Contractors Renewables installs home and workplace charge points, matched to your vehicle and your electrical supply, with a free assessment before any work starts.

Do you work for businesses as well as homes?

Yes. We carry out domestic and commercial work, including a long-running social housing contract, commercial installations and workplace EV charging.

How do the two companies fit together?

Current Contractors Ltd is the electrical side, covering installations, rewires, testing and landlord checks. Current Contractors Renewables covers solar PV, battery storage and EV charge points. Same family, same team, same standards, so you get one point of contact whatever the job.
