The Work

The photos on this page are a selection of recent flat-roof solar installations we have completed on commercial buildings in East Yorkshire. Large, unshaded flat roofs are ideal conditions for solar generation, and in each case the business wanted to bring its daytime electricity costs down by generating power on site, with the installation planned and carried out with proper safe access and as little disruption to day-to-day operations as possible.

What We Do on Every Install

Each of these installations followed the same process:

• Site survey and system design: We survey the roof area, check its condition and load capacity, and design a panel layout to make the best use of the available space while keeping clear walkways for future maintenance.
• Full scaffolding and safe access: Scaffolding and edge protection go in around the building before work begins, so materials can be moved up safely and the team can work at height in line with good site practice.
• Flat-roof mounting system: A mounting system designed for flat roofs is installed and set out in even rows, angling each panel for consistent generation across the array.
• Panel installation in rows: The panels are lifted to roof level and fixed to the mounting system row by row, working in sections so the roof stays tidy and accessible throughout.
• Inverter and electrical connection: Our qualified electricians run the DC cabling from the array, install the inverter equipment and connect the system into the building's electrical supply.
• Testing, commissioning and handover: Each finished array is inspected and tested at roof level, the system is commissioned, and the business is shown how to monitor its generation.

The Result

Rows of panels covering roof space that was doing nothing before, generating electricity throughout the working day, exactly when a business's demand is highest. The photos show the scale of these arrays and the scaffolded access that keeps every installation safe. Typical Duration: Commercial installations are delivered in planned stages, from scaffolding and roof preparation through to panel installation, connection and final testing, with the business able to keep operating throughout.
